Pharmacological effects and mechanism of action

Tannins in the hamamelis plant have astringent effects. These phenolic compounds, at lower concentrations, can seal cell membranes and reduce capillary permeability. At higher concentrations, they cause protein deposition and thicken the colloidal tissue, resulting in a thick membrane in the affected area and ulcers, helping to regenerate damaged blood vessels. As skin proteins become stronger, the resistance to inflammation will also increase, and appropriate anti-inflammatory effects will be seen.
Another effect of the tannins of the Hamamelis plant is the vasoconstrictive and anticonvulsant effects of these compounds, which can facilitate blood circulation in the veins and help maintain the balance of venous & arterial blood flow. In this way, they show good results in relieving varicose veins and diseases related to the vessel wall. With the use of these compounds, the volume of the protrusions in the anal area is reduced and the pain and heaviness are eliminated. They can also reduce congestion and blood clots in localized veins. Appropriate and proven clinical effects of hamamelis have also been observed in local anesthesia and pain relief.
